We’re closing out National Volunteer Month with a shout-out to Joan Fuerch.

She started volunteering with our New LIFE Center food pantry 14 years ago.

Four mornings a week, Joan carries out various jobs. She enjoys working closely with our clients and maintaining a friendly rapport to help understand each family’s personal needs. Her soft spot is for children and she always tries to give them extra treats when they join their mothers at the pantry. Joan mostly enjoys the smiles and hugs she receives.

She also helps with the daily running and maintenance of the pantry by working in the office answering phones, assisting in record keeping,  receiving and organizing the delivery of food, stocking shelves, and helping to direct the other volunteers.

Joan is instrumental in organizing our annual Christmas Giving Tree Program where we — through the generosity of the Nassau County Lutheran churches — distribute over 800 Christmas presents to children, seniors, and disabled adults.

Thank you, Joan, for all that you do to let our program participants know we are thinking of them!
