In celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, Lutheran Social Services of New York is hosting a VIP cocktail reception and advance private viewing of “Word and Image: Martin Luther’s Reformation” on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Morgan Library & Museum. Get an inside look at rare Reformation artifacts, see rare works of art and enjoy cocktails in the Morgan Library & Museum’s beautifully ornate library and gallery spaces.
To celebrate the anniversary of the Protestant Reformation – which dates back 500 years ago when a monk, named Martin Luther, posted Ninety-Five Theses to a church door in Germany – Lutheran Social Services of New York is hosting a one-of-a-kind advance private viewing of some 90 works of art and objects, including one of the five existing printed copies of the Ninety-Five Theses. The majority of the work, from museums in Germany, has never been seen before in North America. Guests will enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in Mr. Morgan’s private library before touring an exclusive first viewing of the world premiere exhibit of “Word and Image: Martin Luther’s Reformation.”
“The Reformation reminds us that we carry out our faith through a living, dynamic confidence in God’s grace. This evening is a celebration of LSSNY’s expression of faith through its social service programs. The night supports programs that reach more than 7,000 individuals and families in New York City every day,” President & CEO David Benke said. “Whether you’re interested in understanding the seeds of our Protestant faith or want a rare glimpse at some fantastic historical documents and works of art, this event promises to be a unique evening of enlightenment and exploration.”
