Mother’s Day can be a disheartening time for teen mothers who are more often criticized than praised.

This year, we held an extraordinary holiday celebration at LSSNY’s “Our Sister’s Place,” a prenatal and parenting residential program for teenage mothers who are in foster care.

Many of our expectant and young mothers have experienced trauma. We aim to provide love and support, prevention services, and advocacy for these young mothers and their babies so they can thrive despite life challenges.

Our Mother’s Day brunch celebrated our “Amazing Mamas” with flowers, paper lanterns, and delicious food. Dr. Diaon Clarke led a group activity using Terrarium Therapy which provided a refreshing and positive environment for relaxation and connection through nature while creatively burying stress and inviting positivity.

We are so grateful for our sponsors: Dr. Diaon Clarke, LCSW-R, principal of Embrace Peace Counseling Services; her daughter, Dylan Williams; the caring staff from the NYC Department of Sanitation’s Bronx Field Office #7; Personal Chef Ken (Chef Ken’s Cooking Lounge); and surrogate “Aunties” Christine Norman, and Sade Bridgemahon.

As Bell Hooks said, “Once you do away with the idea of people as fixed, static entities, then you see that people can change, and there is hope.”

Join us Monday, June 5th for our Virtual Town Hall to learn more about how LSSNY is helping individuals, families, and communities thrive.
