José Antonio Tijerino, President & CEO of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation
At St. John’s House II, our staff created a mural for El Mes de la Herencia Hispana. Colorful flags and images of leading Hispanic Americans were on full display.
At Our Bergen Street residence, we served chicken and beef tacos; veggie empanadas; stuffed peppers with beef, sausage and veggie options; salsa sauce; churros; guava paste with white cheese and crackers; and salad.
Thanks to a professional instructor from Salsa Salsa Dance Studio, our residents learned some new steps while celebrating Hispanic heritage. “Here we go: Left, left, left, left…basic 2-3, 5-6-7, 1-2-3…”
Our Home Life program helps people with mental illness, a history of addiction and substance abuse, low-income families, and marginalized people who can be susceptible to homelessness. We work with our clients to help them live independently. We also provide counseling, job training, money management, and activities that foster responsibility and independence.
