As The New York Times reports, months after the Puerto Rico earthquakes hit, thousands are still living outside of their homes. At LSSNY, we took up a collection to help, providing supplies and other equipment. LSSNY staff, program participants, and people in the community dropped off canned goods, clothing, household supplies, personal hygiene items, toys and books to ship to relief organizations in Puerto Rico.
As a faith-based provider of human services to more than 7,000 people in the city of New York, a large percentage of whom are of Puerto Rican descent, it is our obligation and our privilege to do what is morally and humanly right.
Remember we may light another’s candle with our own without loss.
