Dayron Garcia Varo

“We are more than test scores. We are students with goals and bright futures.”

So said Dayron Garcia Varo, The New LIFE School valedictorian, during last year’s virtual graduation ceremony. Given his learning disabilities, Dayron had worried about delivering his speech live. But just as he had reached his goal of becoming valedictorian, he summoned his courage and moved everyone with his words. (Watch his inspirational 3-minute speech.)

Dayron is turning his self-proclaimed words into reality. Says Executive Director/Principal Christine Amodeo, “Our very own Valedictorian, Dayron, just reached out to us to say that he is entering his spring semester at Monroe College with a 3.5 GPA!  We are so proud of him and it is a huge success for our program.”

Our New LIFE School students come from all five boroughs of New York City. Ranging in age from 8 to 21, they have struggled academically, behaviorally, or emotionally in the past. The New LIFE School tailors their academic experiences to their specific needs, making sure that the school fits the student vs. the other way around. Career development programs such as barbering give students career and life skills.
