We at Lutheran Social Services of New York are troubled by the recent events in Charlottesville, Virginia. As an organization that is dedicated to the sanctity and vitality of people of all races and religions, we are disturbed by the divisive intent of hate groups. Since 1886, our organization has been dedicated to elevating the status of all New Yorkers in need, through social justice and service. In place of hatred and condemnation, we work with compassion to offer greater access to human services that strengthen individuals and families for the enrichment of all society. As Martin Luther proclaimed, “Nothing good ever comes of violence.” We must work together to build unified communities, and stand together against anyone who threatens to tear them down.
